Petite Vertebrae - Hot Pink Phono and Emerald Green Mirror

This series of Petite Vertebrae necklaces was created using antique African record phono beads with glass mirrored bugle beads, they are both threaded upon a cotton/polyester blend chord for extra strength. I have tied the strand using a trusty reef knot, something I learnt from my sailing days, there is no way this beauty will come undone.

Using these carefully sourced materials I create patterns, texture and mood in methodical works which take considerable time and care. Whilst my hands work busily I have an opportunity for my mind to wonder, dream and consider many aspects of life. I have always found sanctuary in the act of making and feel very privileged to have been gifted a relationship between self and material as part of my everyday existence. I have been making feverishly throughout these COVID times and feel blessed to have creativity at my core. These works are part of what I have titled The Isolation Series.

Vertebrae - each of the series of small bones forming the backbone, having several projections for articulation and muscle attachment, and a hole through which the spinal cord passes.
